"Maurice Cody Child Care (The Centre) is a non-profit organization, serving the families of Maurice Cody Public School. The Centre was incorporated in July 1996 after an amalgamation of two existing child care centres operating in Maurice Cody Public School.
The earliest of these was established in September 1979 by parents working with the Toronto Board of Education to provide a program of lunch and after-school care for sixteen Grade School children. A before-school morning program was added the following year and by 1988 the Maurice Cody Lunch and After School Program ("MCLASP") had expanded to serve forty-five children in grades one to four. To accomodate the increasing need for care for older school age children, in September 1994, the capacity was extended to sixty from grades two to six. Again the program was expanded by six children in September 2008.
A Summer Camp program was introduced beginning with the first two weeks of August 1990 and by 1995, MCLASP was running a five-week August program following a four-week July closure.
Parallel to MCLASP, the Maurice Cody Child Centre opened in the school in September of 1987 to serve younger school age children. It began with an enrolment of twenty-four junior and senior kindergarten children, providing full day care twelve months of the year. This number was increased to forty in September 1988. In the fall of 1993, a small group of preschoolers were included.
In the fall of 1995, the Boards of Directors of these two organizations established a joint committee to review the possibility of amalgamation, which took place in July of the following year. The resulting new organization, Maurice Cody Child Care, has a combined capacity of 110 children from ages three years seven months to twelve years. It consists of a Primary Division, which includes children from pre-school, kindergarten and grade one, a Junior Division of grades two and three and a Senior Division of grades four to six.
The experienced staff consists of qualified Registered Early Childhood Educators and Early Childhood Assistants, led by the Manager and Assistant Manager."
